RICE: FOOD & FOLK ART
Did you know there are over 2,500 varieties of rice, and that rice is celebrated at least once a year all over the world? Follow the rice life cycle on its long, labor-intensive journey from seedling to rice paddy, to your rice bowl, and beyond--to intricate sculptures and paintings made with colored rice flour and dough. It's a perfect combination of earth science, history, culture, and art. Just like the cooking pots that helped archaeologists prove that rice cultivation is an 11,000 year old tradition, you'll make a pot embedded with rice decorations.
Also pictured is Rangoli and an extended workshop of cooking, coloring, and sculpting your own rice flour dough into offerings.
