JAPAN: MEDIEVAL & MODERN

This workshop is designed for middle school students studying Medieval Japan.  Learn about ancient textile making and decorating traditions that are still used today by contemporary dyers, weavers, and clothing designers.  Old methods and techniques are still passed down from generation to generation, even using the same family dye houses and tools.  Experiment with the infinite possibilities for designing a shibori/resist dyed cloth artwork, perfect as a wall hanging.

Many other Peopleologie handcraft activities can supplement the slideshow as a Japanese cultural contribution.

Best for ages 6 years to adult
90 minutes
