JAPAN: MEDIEVAL & MODERN

This workshop is designed for middle school students (and others) interested in Medieval Japan.  Learn about ancient textile making and decorating traditions that are still used today by contemporary dyers, weavers, and clothing designers.  Old methods and techniques are often passed down from generation to generation, even using the same family dye houses and tools.  Experiment with the infinite possibilities for designing your shibori/resist dyed cloth artwork, perfect for wall hanging.

Virtually any other handcraft activity can supplement the slideshow as a Japanese cultural contribution and substitutions are welcome.

Best for ages 6 years to adult
90 minutes
